ate the whole plate

Mutha fn tired as hell cuz oxygen levels were so low in this room. One thing I learned the hard way, you don't properly ventilate your room, you'll slowly die really...

so I turned the fan up and although it's cold as f it's actually possible to breathe...

So here we stand, I now have my colors in place for the basic stuff. So looking at the costumes used in the movie, quite elaborately detailed. Makes doing this more of a task but I'll figure something out. I try to hold back my ocdness and not over-work on something to get to perfection, and it does bother me if it doesn't work right and I obsess over it, it's hard to control that but I honestly have no desire to get the minute details exact, no..

this will take a bit longer than anticapated, partially cuz Im lazy but also cuz I am learning as I go and have no idea exactly what I'm doing... I can hang with paint and gimp all day only programs I've got a grip on, not sketchbook and not tablet art though I can see why a lot of people love it. It's a massive tool box of potential without needing to spend on art supplies.

too tired

so I've gotten this far after a very long battle with myself to struggle starring at this blazing monitor all day, not something I like much, no.

Set myself up to get to the finish line tomorrow and fully finish the coloring. Whether I'll go forward and polish it and add glitz and gleam, neither here nor there, can't think about that till I'm looking at a colored in image.

Long day

It's about will power at this point. I am not into doing this but will struggle with the self motivation factor until it is finished I suppose...

For me this is taking so long not just cuz of lack of motivation... I'm learning as I go to figure out how to do this stuff. Never done coloring on multiple layers. Why approach it that way you might wonder? I do want to have some freedom to play with things when I start the shadow and highlights part, maybe paint over the black lines in parts, maybe do a complete change of color in one part or add texture patterns to the clothing which of course would be impossible without everything being transparent. It's been a lot of fail and figuring out what works for the last few hours and now I'm spent, but I can start seeing the finish line here and do intend to finish. Oh and above all else, I have to have layers since I want to have complete control over the background. That's the real point of it all. I want to just draw in anything without having to work around what's in front like I usually do. I mean I'm used to it, but it'd be nice to just freely throw in a background without having to measure how it'll impact the main stuff on the page... that I've never done....

Didn't win

Didn't expect to honestly. Seeing the winners' vids and kinda suspect they got thousands of votes. Who are these people? The vids were mediocre stuff one of which didn't meet the rules so how did that win... No females either so that's kinda sad, should have made it have a bit of an affirmative action slant to it to be more inclusive... but eh, I did get one vote. Somebody liked my vid. And I give that person a huge thanks. It'd really suck to go down without a vote and be one of those vids sitting there at 0....

lots of drama in the last few days for me, and I'll keep it to myself. I mean I want to express my distress but yanno, I've got a lot to express, probably be going on and on about all of it... Fuck that right... live in the moment, don't worry, all going to f'n die anyway... grab a beautiful woman and enjoy this goddamn little life before it's over... That's all I'm thinking... or trying to think...

Going to lay out what I hope can go down tomorrow and the next day...

Get the rest of the coloring completed... Dead eye focus on that stuff, maybe an occasional battlefront match in between considering they've yet again claimed to have fixed the many bugs in that clusterfuck of a game. It's soul crushing to dedicate all your time to one task. Sad but true. I'm only human afterall...

Then when it's over, get back to the damn piano lessons and try to work that out. I don't know, just something I think I should do.... I think often these days about wtf am I going to do to get by without having to go be some damn wage slave negro in the plantations out there, that seems like my only strategy in the end... I'm just being honest. I get it now. It's like not hard to see the way things are.

One positive note though. I've been losing weight like crazy for some reason beyond my unerstanding so I've slimmed down a lot more than I would have imagined. It's been interesting. I've always been skinny it's just the crappy food that's held my potential to be myself back. Nice to see me looking like me again.

Messed around a bit

Lots of experimentation tonight as I intended it to be. I'm getting a better handle on sketchbook pro... certainly a great program to just knock out some quick cool sketches and drawings, so much possibilities to just marathon out a whole comic if you want without the typical stack of papers and such. With better more responsive less glitchy screen tech, yeah I'd say paper's obsolete...

Got a few variations on the bullet poster I came up with:

The first one being the default, then I looked up clip masking on youtube and decided to create a stencil art kinda thing to it with smudges to add that wavy look.... Then played with the hue to make the colors whatever I wanted, so many possibilities with this program so cool. But yeah the bullet gets kinda lost in the last one... but I sitll like it most...

Oh well, on to work tomorrow then back to finishing these things. I'm on target for end of the month, but it will be a lot of work and crap, oh boy what joy.

Terminator to see or not to see

Coming out next week. I'm reading the reviews and stuff, all over the map, some say it's the bomb others its ho hum to outright bad... so a lot of weird disagreement from the net.

Will the public care about the things nitpicky fans care about, nope. I mean movie studios aren't stupid. They know people will flock to anything that looks like a decent diversion from life for 2 hours... Transformers proves that, as do many outright crap movies aiming for the bottom.

I gotta say maybe that's all one can expect from this, a big honking final hoorah for terminator and nothing more.

It's tough to read a review saying oh they didn't like the new storyline or that there's something off with arnolds terminator or it's just the same old tired plot retold, as if well we haven't seen this all before.

I went to go see T3 in theaters when it came out. I followed the films development on the official website. I've been going to these sequels since that one and the movie that broke my interest in more is Genysis. I was ok with these things until then. That film was just a farce. And I'm down with bad sequels that are weird. Probably some of my fav films, the messy weird sequel to superman batman or rocky or tmnt or robocop. I lived and breathed bad sequels in the 90s, mostly all we ever got... so I enjoy exploring awkward other dimension versions of the original story. But Genysis broke me, someone so forgiving of garbage...

And what gets to me is that they're selling this film with just as much enthusiasm as they sold Genysis. There's no difference. So what makes you think I'm going to go take the bait again?

I can't stand by this stuff. Arnold going back and playing terminator when he's now too old to do so and should have evolved as an actor by now. Trying to twist and bend terminator to fit an aging actor is just ludicrous and seems as deranged and possibly mentally unstable as is the natural decline in old age... it's like, is that what we're going to be doing, taking aging actors and tossing them around in movies struggling to portray their old characters. Not what I'm wanting to see, sorry.

Like Mark Hamill's figured it out by now. He's playing characters that are older, not struggling to fit back into Luke or Joker anymore, it's not going to happen. And I have to say he's doing fine. His voice has aged but his experience, brilliant acting has only gotten better, and he owns his new role in ways that are comparable to Luke and Joker, still killing it...

Sad fact of life, you can't go back. Time is a one way street in this universe. But at least in Arnold's case he legit has a character ready to be seen as an older version and we'd all be down for it... why a King Conan movie is still not going forward is just bonkers...

Anyway, I'm getting off track. It's not going to stop hungry nostalgic studio execs looking to cash in on the sequel craze. If there's a dollar to be made re-engineering an old franchise for today they'll damn well do it whether it'll be looked favorably upon or not.

I'm just not ready. I had so much faith in Genysis. To sit there, to literally pay for my ticket go sit there and have the movie take a giant dump on my face, I can't feel up to supporting another one. No, and Arnold may laugh in his interviews and feel like he's too big a name to care, but you aren't doing the franchise any favors by not saying no to these awful scripts that don't work. He's partially to blame and proven to not give a crap about quality just wants to say I'll be back and promote himself. A shame but he's all about capitalizing on his fame more than anything else these days. Not hungry to prove anything...

And yeah, man I want this movie to be good. I've dreamed of a proper well done sequel to T2 since seeing that movie on VHS after a trip to blockbuster or wherever I got it from. It was like witnessing true greatness stumbling upon it. Then I learned of T1 and so on and fell in love with the franchise. Even have some fondness for T3 as like I said, I don't have a problem with bad sequels and find them interesting in an alternate dimension sense and the movie did try, it wasn't horrible. And it was more of a celebration of the franchise in the end, it wasn't meant to be taken as a proper T3, more like a 'why not' movie. Sadly it kick started the snowball of 'screw it' sequels to classic movies that we're stuck in today... It prettymuch got the trend started.

It's tough to follow up T2 but not impossible. I envisioned way back a possible prequel perhaps about the future war time, exploring the time travel device, fighting skynet directly like in battle across time and yes the f'n tiger handheld game. I played to the final boss on that thing, it was skynet you fight! It was glorious.

But yeah, I mean I have nothing left but scattered old memories but I remember really wanting a star-wars level thing with regards to terminator, running around inside of big epic skynet facilities searching for the time machine, whatever the heck... Infinite possibilities with terminator so I'll never think it's ever done with T2. Arnold left an arm in the mill, whether that was an oversight by Cameron or was left there to leave a door open for T3, it's canon and could have been the reason judgement day was delayed not avoided but the film makers on t3 didn't pay attention. Basing skynet on patents that dyson just happened to oopsie forget about, oh right, that works way better, jesus lord.

Yeah this stuff gets to me. Seeing Terminator being fumbled like a amateaur juggler playing around is not fun to do and I can't emotionally invest in yet another failure, and may very well refuse to go see this...

I'm kinda done with it...

Outlaw Johnny Black Audition

Finished and uploaded.

Before doing it, I was kinda hoping to honestly get the part and get my weird dream started of going into hollywood world and making real films instead of my nonsense, oh, boy was my head way in the clouds and not in reality. I said it didn't I, just a post below, acting is hard. Boy was I correct. I failed time and again to make a good performance. I'd forgotten how much of a mental juggle acting is. You have to be in control of every bit of your body's movement and your face expressions, everything...

It's only when you stop trying to act that it looks convincing at all. So true.

Oh well, I did what I know how to do and that's make funny silly stuff. All the super serious auditions, I'm not down with that. Black Dynamite is a parody, this is a parody, why play it up as a drama, why? One dude talking about how he murdered his family in an audition, what are you smoking? Maybe he's not acting?

here's the link to the vid.
 https://vimeo.com/368822205

I have no doubt that a lot of fraud will take place and people who want votes will likely create bots to inflate their votes or just get support from some group they know willing to do it for a price, some wack stuff getting high votes for some reason, so this contest will likely come down to who's able to rig it best. Oh well.

I didn't want to go down without trying. that's all. I'll take a shot in the dark and miss, no fear from me there.

None of my dialogue I wrote really made it in except for my often used phrase "grease the wheels" I made that up to motivate myself at work when I did ramp ops, just some stupid alternative to get er dun.

that's allll folks

Plan and such

Been binge watching martial arts vids on youtube, had no idea it was that much of a complex discipline, I mean sure i knew it was basically like learning to be a gymnast and it takes a lot to do it, but when you really research what martial artists put their bodies through to achieve their belts, YIKES. Scary to think about going hard with it, much respect to those who do.

I'm a natural at some parts of it, I'm athletic and just have that fighter spirit to me or whatever so in a different setting than mine yeah I'd have probably become proficient and it sucks knowing I've kinda lost a lot of time to develop it, well, can't do anything bout that shit now.

New star wars trailer out and shit, I'm again rather cautious or whatever towards it seeing how the trailers for force awakens were ultimately better than the film and JJ Abrams is the mcmuffin of directors, safe, ordinary. I think they just want another force awakens and that's what we'll be getting. Unless there's something great about it, I'm not going to go out of my way tripping over to go see it...

Lightsaber is now practically done just need to drill some holes, get it to be all put back into its original shape it came in and I'll be wearing it to the Fest in nov so I'm excited about getting that crap done right now. It was hell to wait for the glue to finish curing and a lot of pain working with the expanding foam etc. But I did it, I got it to be sitting here able to function turn on, and that's amazing. I took a 2007 saber I bought 12 years ago and made it into a removable blade version... gonna wash it off since it's got 12 years of dirt and grime on it then reasemble the thing back to normal and that's it, done.

As for the art, yep, gonna finish and polish all that stuff. Aiming for the end of the month for a ballpark deadline.

Also Outlaw Johnny black movie has open auditions now and they'll be voting for who gets to go shoot a scene at the movie. Do I want to get a role? Fuck yeah, but the thought crosses about the travel cost and all that. I'd gladly take amtrak, I love amtrak but I know that's at least a few days journey, dunno if I can survive being on a train all day. I don't believe I'll get picked at all anyway so I'll do my little acting reel thing post it and hope for something but I'll keep my expectations in check.

How will I act. I try to just not act, that's my method. I don't like watching movies where the acting is just unrealistic or so obvious. I am watching the other auditions and a few are quite good though don't meet the requirements set in the rules so they will be disqualified, but there are a few from seeming pros who know what they're doing. Mine will be just me, my way of things, and if you've watched my stuff, I try to be funny and natural. But yeah acting's hard, finding the reality of the moment is hard stuff.

That's it.

Ok had some fun

yeah right fun, more like torture.

fixing my lightsaber and told myself this morning i had to do the wiring tonight or bust. So I busted my ass to get the wires saudered together... now just have to wait for the glue to cure on it. So frustrating and it turned out to be as hard as I imagined. It was hell to figure out how to sauder a total of 16 tiny wires to a bunch of pin connectors, Yanno what, buy the removable blade version just don't try to make the damn thing. You'll screw yourself up.

Well got it to run, so that's over with.

now I put off finishing this pic till later but I said f'it and decided to soul crushingly work away at my next last dragon pic...

boom the results...

F it yanno, it's not perfect but it took a lot to push it further and further to my vision for it and I don't feel it's far off..... pretty close. Loving the airbrush tool, so conveinient to just create glow which is something I was not sure how I'd go about producing whether preset effect or just fading and using transparency and selection tool, but no there's just a tool that does it all for you, who knew...

That's prettymuch final don't know how I can play with it more just going to end up ruining it. Nope didn't intend the glowing eye effect for Sho nuff, none of that was planned I just said what the hell and threw it in there came out cool...

some mo

Just an interesting journey this was. I thought it would be easy but then it just wasn't working...

Then I accidentally filled the whole thing with red bucket paint and then black bucket paint and it looked stunning.... so I decided to try to emulate that with the glow and sparks and it's far better than I originally conceived. So again just a rough of it for now going to polish and fix it later.

Happy accidents, yeah...

More previews

As you can see I did two versions of the vegeta one since I honestly didn't know which one I'd prefer, I mean i thought the first one was better in my head and I've decided it is but I'm Ocd so I had to confirm it and decided to do the other one  too just to confirm my suspisions.... simple is always better in every single possible situation. The coloring process is going to be trial and error and all that but should come together nicely and make my bland as hell sketching look more powerful.

ok we good

pen died. havent changed the battery since purchase so it was destined to die some point. Didn't know it'd be so expensive to replace the bat. Will be purchasing the rechargables and go with that, Do I wanna spend 57 dollars on a rechargable pen and all that hoo haww nonsense, nope, I'll gladly go rechargable. Issue is that this particular pen I have is messed up since the design of it is just garbage little sticky tape used to keep the wiring in easily came off and makes putting a battery in it tough and it took me a while to re-adjust the wire strip to line up with the overly complicated way it engages to turn itself on. Lucky it works and will be trying to finish the stuff now that we're back in the game here...

Nothing to show since I've haven't worked on anything in a minute but yeah everything's going forward.

Saturday, October 12, 2019

Here we go, got more of it done.

Even started to fix and work on the goku stuff...

Both will end up being full color comic book style. I'm not much of a fine artist though I have dabbled in that world. Not much more to add except it's coming along as expected. I just have a hard time starring at a screen for a long time. makes my eyes hurt even at this comps lowest brightness setting and night light turned on...

uh what else... dunno. Gonna attempt to build the lightsaber when the uv flashlight finally arrives...

As for will anyone care about what I'm doing... I kinda hope so but generally nobody ever does so nope not expecting anything from it...

I merely do this as a fan and hope someone gets a laugh.

Sum dum goy

getting into this and grooving on it... finally nailed the composition of it after trial and error. I think it's called negative space something I've done very few of in my time but yeah I like that stuff where you can create a multi layered drawing sometimes. Everything is always so straight forward. I say live a little... make it fun.

Will bust ass on this all day I think, finish it and I'm falling in love with these tablet sketch programs.

Might seriously consider putting together my Raven and Bishop comics on this and get them going... ironic too since I seriously started using the internet as a kid to read comics online. Full circle I guess...

Edit...

ok, this will essentially be it. I don't generally roto but I had no choice since I typically don't draw little ernie reyes jr or any of these people so in this case I had to copy his famous pudgy face from the movie... I have to admit I was surprised when he showed up in the movie when I first saw it, like, wow, say what? what's he doing in this, makes sense but I didn't see it coming. Obviously he was getting a leg up into a career in film and showing off what he could do, and most likely it was vital to him getting other roles from the exposure in TLD...

You'll see, the hard part is very much over, now comes the part I do actually like, the coloring and shadowing and adding depth and texture. Could likely all be done by week's end if I stop being a lazy bum, we'll see...

Definitely when you do stuff like this you gain more experience doing the tough stuff like hands and noses. Not easy but you learn the shortcuts to making it work. If I can give advice on those treat them like clay or even mittens first then worry about fingers. As far as noses go, get the bird shape down like todd mcfarlane suggested in his tutorial. I was struggling with the nose then just decided to bird shape it first and it fell into place fine after that so of course todd wasn't lying about it... Bird shape means don't worry about the bridge of the nose at all, figure out the beak (tip) and wings (nostrils) aspect then the rest will be easier.. Very true...

Joker

Actually a good take on the character.
Lots of thoughts on the film online much of it hyperbole. Its something of a small art film. Kinda remarkable they stuck a little indie movie up as a mega comic book movie. Its none of that. Its just a simple film about a mentally ill person going to crazy town and not coming back. Its like those movies like kpax or rain man or chronicle etc. I looked at it as very close to the fly but not on that level. Opinions are hot right now. Whats the reality going to say about it in years time. The big question does phoenix outdo heath or hamill.

I dont think he had ample time as joker to make a fair comparison but when he actually was just joker it was glorious. He needed to just be joker more thats for sure. Show him entertaining the thought of embracing being joker rather than him looking at it as a seperate underground movement.

He goes dark too quick too and thats kinda lazyily done. Its joker so he should be sick and demented but we dont see exactly where his desire to be so dark comes from except that he has a joker spirit in him. I think chronicle and even akira did the descent to evil better. Ultimately this movie is comparable to the likes of split or any slasher movie about a well... Psycho. Its all that stuff just with joker slapped on it but its good and works. Way better than venom and if they want to make small artsy films with popular comic characters im definitely down for it.

Ledger or phoenix... In purely a joker sense phoenix is better because hes not as cheesy but again not given any time to delve into his version so in a way they end up actually even in my mind. Ledger being too one note and phoenix being too un note. But if the movie was actually about joker be pretty amazing to watch that. I like ledgers joker but phoenix laughed better, worked harder at it. Didnt need to contort his voice. You do feel like his voice just fits joker.

Onto hamill vs phoenix. The real battle. It comes down to simply who injected more life into their joker and flare him up. Its close and I mean even phoenix probably didnt even try to beat hamill but he did seem to want to capture his soul and i enjoyed that. Hamill IS joker. If you want to do joker right just watch hamill. The scene with the gruesome death then act of kindness pure hamill joker. The cute looks and bouncy giddishness pure hamill. Hamill will forever be best joker ever but damn does phoenix bring it and gives us a peak at what a hamill style joker could be. Creepy goofy and unpredictable.

Well im gonna go now. I dont want this whole thing to turn out to be a joke.

Got into the groove

I'll be honest, I have been doing art for a very long time, all my life but it's still daunting to struggle with the stuff even with my decades of experience. And true I don't and have never really done high contrast style ever. Here's the result of my experiment with it. Of course I'll finish it up and make it better but this was very close to what I envisioned. Proud of the determination to complete it I had

I'm going for a real pop-art old school sin city style with these ones. Lots of monochormatics if that makes sense...

Might blur out shonuf in the back and apply a smudgy effect to make it look more like a blast of light from the back.

Need to also fudge out and fix Leroy some more. As you can kinda see it's got that african sculpture look to it, not intentional but I guess since I was having african vibes in me as I did it it just came through... don't know... Still figuring this stuff out and it's not even at the resolution I intented, weird programs I'm dealing with but how much does res matter in the end, I don't even know... I mean it's important when you want to display it in 4k without it being zoomed in too much...

Ok, so that's it, good expermental bit and did make mistakes and learned more about tablet sketch art which has its hurdles to overcome if you're used to traditional style. And I simply find it annoying to have the damn pallet obscurring the screen as I go along... sucks. but it's possible to get it done I guess... got to agree with Jim Lee though. Paper's just more personal. Like I don't have to worry about the computer drawing crap I didn't intend to, it's got a mind of its own or something...

gonna work on the harder collage I guess monday or whatever... then we'll get the easy peasy ones done... see ya then.

still getting there

will be using today to more or less acclimate myself to these pen and ink painting programs and figuring out how to utilize them best to create the effect I want...also need to re-organize my concept for the glow collage piece since I had a better idea last night...

getting there

Actually kinda fun to get back into the challenge of crafting these things... learning more about these modern sketch programs...

Gonna get my art on

Well apparently people still read this blog... why?

Anyway I've been injured in a scooter accident that could have been worse. Yep flew off and rolled and skidded to a stop scraping my arm a bit and the scooter fell onto my leg. Thanks NYC potholes, you bastards... nothing I could do. Was going fine then it just happened and I should be dead, but I'm athletic and have been losing serious weight so I guess that helped and shit. All I remember is just zoning out and going into instinctive primal survival mode as gravity took me and that was it, I long ago accepted that if I fell off my scooter prepare for hell, so I was always simulating what to do in my mind, shocked I survived it... shocked. My leg is swollen and is the primary reason I didn't go to the whole foods job fair to get a job there. And I wonder to myself now, wtf, maybe I'm not supposed to work for them in a real sense only through the method I currently do... just I need a real job not this kids table stuff. It's insanely de-meaning and I KNOW i'm overqualified for this garbage.

Since I can't walk well, I'll be bed ridden for a while so I figured I'd give a preview of what I'm going to be working on soon or whenever... sorry it's how I drew it on my convertable computer... Very rough.

I'll do some silly drawings for the Last Dragon thing coming down the pipe.

Got lots of ideas for a cool looking poster for it.... I want to get in contact about how to submit this stuff for recognition or perhaps even like putting it up around the theater for viewing, but I don't know about going that far... Just was having a really cool idea and thought ok, connect DBZ and TLD and people would get a kick out of it...

I'll be showcasing my progress as I'm doing this all through digital not going to sketch it out on paper as I originally planned. I'm proficient in the digital art world been doing mspaint art since I was on old school windows 95, long old school digitial artist so I know my way around it well enough, not scared of it.

Should be cool once I'm finished. That's what I do anyway... when bored, I draw. It'll never make sense to me why people go so crazy sometimes. If you can be creative you got all you really need.

Rambo last blood clot

Effective film. Bloated and in need of another draft but the film will push your emotions and its to me a decent conclusion although I struggle with whether it was needed. Its a good addition to the 2008 rambobut forget about viewing it on par with the first 3. Its heart is notconcerned with trying to cpntend with those. Is it a political commentary... Mexico vs us...Nope. Its simple as hell revenge story. Shallow and any depth it has you put it there. Its a simple movie...

The best I can say about it is that it does show rambo accepting who or what he is a demon created to chase and kill other demons... But yeah if you dont care to swe it and catch it on cable one day I wouldnt really blame ya. Ive simply been to better meatier flicks really that warrant the theatrical experience.
