THAWTS on solving Manhattan's traffic problems.

Not a fan of Manhattan for long periods of time... Can't say I enjoy being there and walking the streets as much as I feel at sync with the environment. I am the City.

This gizmodo article got me thinking though... hmmm, what could be done to aid the constant confusing, tangled mess that is manhattan traffic.

It's very stupidly done the traffic down there. You got buses, trucks, cars of all shapes and sizes all on the same streets plus a billion people walking around. Insane how anybody gets anywhere or who'd be dumb enough to want to drive through that horror show...

I'm thinking give people an alternative to cars. They have citibikes down there now a lot. Pay for a bike and ride it and such. I think that's an attempt to give people an alternate form of transport and take the heat off people needing a car a little more. Not a bad concept I guess.

The thing they need to do is offer electric vehicles to people, I think. Thing about manhattan is that it's a stop and go traffic situation. You'll never be going full speed. So why do you need a gas powered anything down there.

I dare submit the city should offer electric car and bike rentals if you need a quick ride anywhere and you don't necessarily need to burn any gas to get there.

Imagine it, there's no real serious need for a full car if you want to go to the movies or something. Go by bike. Go by gokart. I'd love to see manhattan streets filled with zippy little electric gokarts since in my mind that's all most people need down there anyway.
