Thawts on Mad TV

So mad tv is back. What a world...

Why should you care what I think about Mad Tv returning? YA FUCKING SHOULD.

I was there watching the original religiously.

Phil Lamarr hates me because I hated him on the original Mad TV. Just kidding. Phil Lamarr has no idea I exist.

Anyway, watched the first episode of the new shit. Definitely needs some fine tuning. The jokes are good but they're no where near the original show's level.

Kinda like new Nick vs the ballsy as hell old nick. Shit just isn't as damn well made. Like the game of thrones sketch was boring as shit.

I'm watching it getting the sense that I'm watching a bunch of people trying desperately to immitate the old mad tv sketches without bringing any of their own talent to the table.

That's the thing about the original Mad they're missing. Phil Lamarr wasn't just some actor out the gutter, he was a fucking highly educated extremely talented actor who was always great at everything he touched on that show. Everyone was like that on the original mad, just actual brilliant high level people working on that show. Black people working on that show. One thing I have to comment on too was that mad tv had black cast members and it made the show feel like reality. This new mad seems like, well here's a bunch of white people and 2 little blacks over there in the corner...

If they have the balls to put the black cast members in the majority of the sketches, then it'll be interesting.

If it's a scenario where they're going to stuff the white cast members in our faces 90% of the time and toss the black cast in the background here and there, it's going to fail...

And I don't want it to Fail. I love Mad Tv. It's always been a huge part of my life, and part of my identity. Really sit and watch the old sketches. They're just comedy brilliance. Yeah they're low brow humor, but there's a subtle brilliance to them. They didn't ever make a dumb straight forward sketch on mad. Only when the smarter cast memebers left that they started to really just make snl level crap.

Good to have ya back mad. Damn good.
