The Last Samurai, Jack

Well, that's it.

No more wondering how samurai jack ends. We now know, forever.

How do I feel about it?

Little history lesson. I was there, watching samurai jack airing on cartoon network every week. I taped episodes, I of course later learned how to download them, but mostly I was a maniac about taping the old cartoon network shows. If I actually check some of the old vhs tapes I have here, most likely find something. I taped shit tons of stuff off tv but to find my old tapes of them is truly tough as most of it has been lost. I didn't know I had a gold mine, just stupid.

moving forward...

As an oldbie. The generation who witnessed jack on its first run and not some new punk dumbass kid who just discovered the show.... my opinion matters more than them.

My opinion is boiled down to one two words: Stretched Thin.

I was both satisfied by the ending and disappointed at the same time. Some comments say, oh it felt rushed. Yeah, surely, but I'm glad Genndy had the balls to finally just nail the final damn thing down and finish it. You don't know how hard it is for an artist to finish his shit and not look back, plus there have been countless unfinished cartoons in my time on this earth that I've seen. Finally having that trend be axed is a huge relief.

But is it?

I do want to see more and learn more about jack and aku. It kinda feels like they left us all hanging with questions about what we just watched lost style.

It's best compared to the ending of Lost. A masterpiece of a series that ended like a parody of itself because they had no idea how it would end all along, just made it up all the way through.

Same feeling comes from the new finale. Genndy didn't know how he was going to end it, just pulled it out of his ass.

Fuck it, right...

It's good, nothing terrible. It's a clever way to make jack get back to the past, just by using aku's own time travel powers to do it instead of seeking a time machine... Never saw that coming. I honestly thought he'd never get back, for him to actually get back is like wtf...

So the series basically ends where it began, it's tragic really. Jack fullfills his destiny and kills aku, but doing so means his wife dies too. So now he's truly LOST forever and can't get Back to his true home, his wife ashi.

That's it. That's how it ends... And it's like wtf now.... dunno.... just accept it brah...

So yeah, after dedicating myself to this series, the ending is ok, but it took you fuck all this long to come to this confusing, artsy, just tepid ending that leaves jack in limbo looking at his life as a big tragic waste... yeah he saved his past and his family, but he lost his future and his family there. What kind of way to end it is that....

This episode will divide fans of jack for all time. Good job.

Well, it's over, nothing any of us can do about it. I'm neither over the moon about it or fully hating it. It just is....
