The retro nick block.
I don't understand the concept. When I was a kid and watching Nick, they showed ALL the old cartoons and shows at random times and it was never part of a "oh this is the old shit" block to separate it from the regular programming. It was just typical Nickelodeon shows. You either got into it or you didn't.
I mean if they air old episodes of All That, YES nobody's sporting a smart phone. And nobody's on the internet 24/7 but it's still NICK as it gets.
It's like how cartoon network still shows Dexter's Lab around the clock, probably because Gendy was a genius and created a genius show so it still gets ratings today.
I mean really are the old nick toons SOOOOOO old now? Did I miss something? I thought they were pretty darn modern age and practically timeless. What cartoon today compares to Invader Zim? None of them... They hardly if ever made pop culture refs that will be forgotten today. They were about the characters and the stories. It's the best way to make a cartoon so it can indeed last for maybe decades.
Like, I'm kinda furious about it. What if Cartoon Network did this. They show dexter and all the 90s stuff at random and don't shoe horn them into a retro block at all. Cuz the shows are still badass and in some ways BETTER than today's crop. Like if they showed Johnny Quest on tv these days, would a kid be like OMG it's a 90s show, pass.. HELL NO. He'll lose his shit saying OMG this show's the shit!!!
Yes I know, the CGI in the 90s shows looks like ps1 graphics, butt I'll watch any of those over today's bullshit, half baked, nonsense. They worked their ass off to create shows in the 90s because there was no internet. It was DO OR DIE to survive on television. That's why those shows are so good.
I don't understand the need to signify to kids that OH well back the 90s, that Kel fellow was quite popular and shit oh and there was no such thing as "LOL" people actually had to Laugh out Loud back then. Strange old ancient 90s. OH FUCK YOU. Seriously?
