Doing some split screen work for the static shock fan film thing I'm churning out little by little...
I've worked on this shot all day, aaaaaaaaaaalll day. Yet another attempt at doing split screen back to the future fx and it's no simple thing, it's been bone crushing to figure out what shot works and syncs with the performances I gave as both characters...
Little advice for those looking to do similar stuff...
Try to create shortcuts for yourself when it's all over... Don't have traffic wizzing by in the back ground... My mistake... because of the traffic roto scoping was infinitely harder.
Don't obscure most of the frame at all, EVER, it's going to be roto scope hell...
Try to eliminate the camcorder's auto focus, simply turn it off really. Because of the damn auto focus, it ruined a great take I had which was what I wanted for the scene, but I couldn't stand the blur that happened every time and it just screwed it up...
Buy a wifi camera, that's obvious. Ruined another good take because I nudged the camera, throwing off the split screen.
Ultimately the best thing to do is not overlap the other character because then you really screw it over... I was wise to I guess subconsciously know that I should have one character not move much and be in the corner away from getting a ton of cars and pedestrians in the frame so when I cut that part into the other shot it didn't have any interference or anything mucking up the picture...
It came out as best as it could. Not the take I wanted, but it works, it does the job and if you're not paying attention you might buy that some how I found someone to play another character in this thing for me.
Which sadly is not the case. Participation would be awesome if I actually could find people to help me, but I've always worked alone... It's no different now, just another project, another long day of editing....
I have to fully polish and finish the final fight scenes, get all my props from ebay that are still on their way, and once I got tons of footage ready to go, I will be cutting together a teaser trailer to seal the deal and provide some sense of progression to the project as I'm sure it's been a way too long wait for most people who have any interest in this...
My bad, I've never tackled something of this size. But I think I can do it!
I know it has to be done, honestly. I feel compelled by some greater power to do this shit.... maybe there's a FORCE guiding me....
