April O Neil is blackity Black darkness now...

I guess it's a bit of a play on how baxter was turned white in the cartoon or something. A lot of things in the old school tmnt toon were very way off from the comic so that was the least of its problems.

How does my black ass feel about April being turned black in the new show?

Honestly I love white women and wouldn't mind seeing white april continue to be white. It makes the juxtaposition of the lives between her and the turtles have more of a contrast. She's a normal white person, they're freaky mutant turtles. Their friendship has more power because they're so different. It adds to april's character and makes her seem more loving and tougher than typical white girls afraid of everything in the world that's different from them.

So yeah the change to a black girl if they comment on how her being black puts her on the outskirts of society similar to the turtles (which they won't) changes that aspect of her character and I don't like it.

Now it's going to be, oh this black girl identifies with being treated as a lesser being alongside her new turtle friends... I don't know, never saw April that way.

Like in the first movie when she's having to attempt to hide the turtles in her house... not the best example, but what I'm saying is that because she's so white and charming, she was able to get her boss not to look further into his suspicions of the turtles being in the apartment. As for the cartoon, true the thing about the cartoon was that at times they didn't know what the hell to do with april and she turned out to be a non-involved character for most of the series. Like I don't even remember if she was in most of TMNT 2k3 beyond the first few seasons. Once the series went into outer space and all the wacky doodle shit it did, I think they had her not even be in episodes. So I can see why they made the change. Most likely she's going to be similarly there just for tradition sake but not be involved hands on with the main story lines.

Like there was no april in Next Mutation when you get down to how useless she is.

Now what are they gonna do about april going back in time. Like if they wanted to do a story like TMNT 3 they're pretty screwed. I doubt a black person back in ancient japan would get very far...

So yeah there won't be time travel. It's a serious change that limits their story telling capability. I don't know if it was a wise one. Doesn't look like much of a serious show though... probably going to be even goofier than the nick tmnt show so I'll catch it from time to time but no, not going to follow it religiously.
