apparently found a phone belonging to a missing person

Such a strange turn of events. I find a phone in the woods where I go to shoot static shock. Turns out after some investigation of the phone it belongs to a missing woman. I couldn't figure out why the phone was there left all by its own next to a pile of trash as a big kinda ashy circle pit burned next to it, some sort of fire had been made and gone out... Then a freakin detective calls the phone. This stuff was reported to the police. I pick it up and the dude's insistent on getting the phone back asap. Drives all the way here to get the phone. This is serious. I feel awful that maybe she's freakin dead. I hope not, seemed like a nice old lady. Nothing on the phone worth scrap and I was thinking if no one wanted the damn thing, well, free phone, but I did what I thought I'd want someone to do if I lost my phone (which I did.) Had no idea it's part of an ongoing missing person investigation. Got to give it to the detectives, they are doing their jobs and trying to find her. God be with them, may this all turn out not so bad. All I know, is that I didn't see her or anyone around the area where I found the phone. I thought it was a homeless guy that left it there. Damn shame, I don't know. It's possible to get lost in the park, but not such a huge park that it's impossible to some how make it back to the streets guided by sound or just walking long enough... so sad. I mean, it's a scooby clue in the right direction. Now that they know where she was, they can concentrate their efforts in finding her better, who knows...
